Mott Community College students at Holmes have received a significant boost in the number of students they have graduated from, with more than a third of them earning degrees in the community.
The school says Holmes graduates more students per student than the rest of the nation and more students in the school’s community than in any other community.
This year’s graduating class includes nearly 3,100 students, up from 2,500 the year before.
The average number of Holmes students per year is more than 10, and Holmes has more students than any other institution in the state of Wisconsin.
“We’re proud of this achievement, and we’re excited about the students that are graduating,” Holmes senior Lianne Rottman said.
“They’ve come through this really hard, tough, and rewarding time and have made great contributions to the community.”
Holmes senior Amanda Wiese also received a bachelor’s degree in community and social service.
She has been volunteering at a local shelter, but said the community college was the perfect fit for her education.
“It’s just great to be a part of this,” she said.
Holmes has been at the forefront of increasing diversity in the classroom.
This year, there are more than 4,100 faculty members and more than 800 students, and it’s part of a larger effort to increase student diversity.
“This is a great example of how we’re building on the successes we’ve already seen at Holms to build on those gains for students across the country,” said Dr. Jodi Smith, director of student affairs.
“It is really a testament to our commitment to excellence in the academic, research and community environments that we are able to attract the very best students and graduates in the country.”
Holms was founded in 1846 and is located on the northern tip of Wisconsin’s Upper Peninsula.
Holmes is ranked in the top 10 schools in the U.S. in terms of student retention and retention rate, according to a study by the U-M Department of Education.
